I love Second Grade! I came to Ocean Knoll last year from El Camino Creek, as one of the new Third Grade teachers. I am happy to say that I got my wish this year, and get to teach with some awesome partners in my favorite grade.
This will be my 18th year teaching Second. Shortly after graduating from the University of California, at Santa Barbara, I started teaching kindergarten in Los Angeles. My husband was a doctor in the Navy and we were sent to Okinawa, Japan where I got a job with the Dept. of Defense, teaching first grade. From there, I came back to the States and put teaching aside until my children were old enough to go to school, and then I joined the Encinitas School District. Besides second grade, I have taught third, fourth, fifth, and Spanish to seventh and eighth grade students in Rancho Santa Fe. I have three adult sons, living in Washington DC, Long Beach, and San Diego. Our favorite trips are to Hawaii. I prefer the Big Island, but the boys like Maui better, so this summer, we spent it in Maui! We love snorkeling, hiking, reading and going to incredible restaurants! Closer to home, I spend many hours gardening, which I find so relaxing. We are all down hill skiers and go to Park City, Utah where we had a second home for years. It has become our favorite go to spot for winter sports, like ice-skating and snow shoeing. But, the icing on the cake… is to teach! I can’t believe I get to do this as a job. I feel very fortunate and enthusiastic to be at an IB School, and look forward to a great year with my new team and your wonderful children! |
